Actually I have pretty much already bookended or bracked this text with notes and hyperlinks.  My original inspiration was in the field of geometric religion or practices.  The source is a project in The Atlantic(1) and further deconstruction involved that magazine as well.

Satire is not a two way street.

That is the proposal.  That it is unlikely to be possible for there to be equivalence on the right and left.  Now that is an awkward statement or phrasing of the* obvious. 

There is difficulty comparing anything at opposite ends of the political spectrum, let alone** middles.  The Olbermann/Beck comparison is along the lines of journalism more than parody.  Limbaugh along the lines of Colbert more than Olbermann.  It may be along the lines of who is pulling whose leg for whom.  That's the gravitas!

To paraphrase the difficulty for which there is more work needed, parody may be more difficult for those in power. But this may confuse parody with satire, or either with having a point, confounded by the(~)irony of being direct about the point in a world of hypocrisy.
